Millions for the development of safe bicycle parking

Bikeloop has been awarded NOK 5.9 million in financial support from the Ministry of Transports' research and innovation programme for advance research and further development of safe bicycle parking. The company is one of six companies that have been awarded research funding.

Bikeloop will use the funding to develop and test forward-looking, secure, and smart bicycle parking solutions. The project aims to simplify everyday life for cyclists while promoting sustainable transport choices. By creating safe and user-oriented parking services where they are needed most, the goal is to increase cycling rates in local communities. Combining smart technology with secure parking, Bikeloop is building a network to support cyclists wherever they are—whether at home, work, the cinema, or during daily activities.

As society evolves, with a growing number of expensive e-bikes and a stronger focus on sustainability, the demand for smarter bicycle parking and related services has risen. Current solutions often fail to meet these needs, leaving many bikes unused at home. This project aims to change that. With support from the Norwegian Centre for Transport Research (TØI), Bikeloop will collect data to identify the best solutions to increase cycling and reduce car dependency.

Bikeloop’s vision is to create safer and more accessible urban spaces for cyclists through innovative technology. By combining practical solutions with digital innovation, the company seeks to lower the threshold for choosing bicycles as a daily mode of transportation. This aligns with the government’s goals of promoting greener and more sustainable transport habits.

-This support provides us with a unique opportunity to realize our vision of creating safer and more accessible urban spaces for cyclists. We believe that smart and future-oriented solutions like this can be key to encouraging greener transport habits, said Hedda Heyerdahl, founder of Bikeloop.

-It’s a challenge to deliver better and safer transport while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and minimizing the impact on land and nature. Research and innovation are crucial to meeting these challenges, and I’m glad to see Norwegian companies actively contributing to solutions, said Jon-Ivar Nygård, Norway’s Minister of Transport, during the announcement.

Bikeloop is also exploring complementary services, including engagement tools, home delivery of goods, parking reservations, bike-sharing, and rewards programs as part of their secure parking solutions.-At the same time, we are developing a data analysis system integrated with third-party solutions, collaborating with public and private actors to create seamless travel experiences, Heyerdahl added.

Other projects receiving funding include Roadguard AS, Siemens Mobility AS, Telia Norge AS, ISI AS, and Kobla AS. These grants represent a significant step toward fostering innovation in Norway’s transportation sector and developing sustainable mobility solutions for the future.
